In the mid-1990s, when Russian citizens could travel to Hungary visa-free and Hungary was yet more drawn to Russia than to the EU, and when Kereskedelmi & Hitelbank Rt looked more like the Soviet Sberbank (which, in fact, it had been before western investors came in), the account opening procedure and comfortable work with the bank made it a frequent choice among clients.
But in the early 2000s, the ‘European tendencies’ took hold of the financial system and in line with the new trends the bank stopped working with Russian customers
