Vessels and yachts may be registered under the flag of the Seychelles under the terms of the Merchant Shipping Act 1992 (Merchant Shipping Act 1992).

When registering a yacht or a ship, a Certificate of Registration for a period of 5 years and a Radiation license for a period of one year shall be issued. Every year, it is necessary to pay an annual tonnage charge, as well as a fee for the extension of radio lensing.

The basic requirements for the registration of yachts and vessels under the Seychelles flag:

  1. A yacht (ship) must not be older than 15 years; if older than 15 years, the Seychelles Maritime Safety Authority (SMSA) will conduct a voyage check (for ships under repair: a ship's expert must be present to verify the process of restoring ships);
  2. If the length of the yacht (ship) is more than 20 m, it is necessary to perform a survey by one of the recognized classification Societies;
  3. Full technical information and documentation should be provided on the yacht (ship);
  4. The yacht (ship) must also be provided with:
  • application for registration of the yacht (on a special form);
  • an application for the call sign / identification number of the maritime mobile service;
  • an application for radio licensing (the ship must be registered before the SLA can issue a radio communication license);
  • confirmation of the appointment of a person authorized to sign on behalf of the owner;
  • declaration of ownership (must be signed and stamped by a notary, lawyer) (on a special form);
  • deed, document of title (original / notarized copy of the Bill of Sale);
  • mortgage (if any);
  • original / notarized copy of the Builder's Certificate (Builder's Certificate);
  • color photograph of the yacht (ship), in electronic form;
  • a copy of the certificate of incorporation of the company;
  • a copy of the charter and the company's memorandum of association;
  • certificate of good condition of the company (if the company exists for more than a year);
  • Declaration of Ownership;
  • application for radio licensing;
  • a copy of the previous certificate of registration (if available);

If the yacht (vessel) was previously registered under some other flag, it is necessary to cancel the previous registration and provide the original certificate of exclusion of the vessel from the register. Certificate of exclusion from the register (only if the vessel was previously registered, and NOT applicable to newly built vessels)

If the owner does not have a Certificate of Exclusion from the register of the current country of registration, a temporary certificate of yacht registration valid for 90 days will be issued until the Certificate of Exclusion from the register is provided.

All documents must be provided in English, or translated into English.
