Obtaining a Travel Pass in Hong Kong. Service offer

Travel Pass is intended for those who often visit Hong Kong for business purposes and who need to stay in Hong Kong during more days than allowed as visa-free entry.

Travel Pass is a machine-readable document consisting of 32 pages and valid for 3 years. A Travel Pass gives the right to multiple visits to Hong Kong each of which may not exceed 2 months. When entering and leaving Hong Kong, a holder of a Travel Pass can use counters for residents, which simplifies and speeds up passing immigration control. The Travel Pass is presented along with the passport.

IMPORTANT: A Travel Pass is not a residence permit and does not grant the holder the status of a resident of Hong Kong.

Requirements for the applicant

  • be a citizen of a country citizens of which can enter Hong Kong visa free or obtain a visa upon arrival, and have a valid passport;
  • justify the need for frequent visits to Hong Kong;
  • visit Hong Kong at least 3 times during the year preceding the application for a Travel Pass (leaving Hong Kong for China or Macau and then entering Hong Kong do not count).

Necessary documents

  • standard application form filled out and signed by the applicant;
  • passport copy;
  • proof of 3 visits to Hong Kong during the preceding year;
  • confirmation letter from the employer company and general information on the company;
  • confirmation letter from the company that is the principal business partner / contact in Hong Kong.

Procedure of obtaining a Travel Pass

The application and supporting documents can be submitted to Hong Kong Immigration Department electronically. Application review takes 4 to 6 weeks.

The Travel Pass is issued to the applicant or an authorized person. In any case, the original passport of the applicant will have to be presented.

The government fee for issue of the Travel Pass is paid at issuance.

There is no procedure for appealing against a decision to refuse to issue a Travel Pass.

The service fee includes:
- consultation on obtaining a Travel Pass;
- filling out the application;
- consultation on preparation of the set of supporting documents;
- submitting the application to the Immigration Department, tracking the application status and communicating with the Immigration Department;
- accompanying the applicant to the Immigration Department to receive a Travel Pass or receiving a Travel Pass under a power of attorney;
- payment of the government fee for issue of the Travel Pass.
