A yacht must be registered in the “State of Principal Use”, i.e., the state on whose waters the yacht is to be used. Delaware law requires a yacht to stay on Delaware waters for at least 60 consecutive days.

Purpose of the yacht: for personal use / pleasure yacht.

Length: 40ft.

List of documents required to register a yacht in Delaware

For a New Vessel

  • original Manufacturer’s Certificate of Origin or Builder’s Certificate;
  • original Bill of Sale.

For a Used Vessel

  • original Title (signed by the buyer) or notarized Bill of Sale with a full description of the yacht;
  • original registration documents (for Non-Title States) and a notarized Bill of Sale with a full description of the yacht;
  • Federal Documentation (copy of the most recent Certificate of Documentation and a notarized Bill of Sale with a full description of the yacht);
  • documents disclosing the entire chain of previous ownership of the yacht (Bill of Sale for each sale);
  • Lien release (if applicable).

The set of documents may vary depending on the type and purpose of the vessel, place of its previous registration, length, etc. The Registry has the right to request other documents necessary for the registration.
