Migration rules of Oman provide for obtaining a residence permit (RP).

Oman provides for a few grounds for obtaining the status of a resident of the country and, as a result, a few resident visa options:
• work visa – issued for 2 years;
• category 1 investor visa – issued for 10 years*;
• category 2 investor visa – issued for 5 years*.
*the ID must be reissued every 3 years

Main advantages of obtaining resident visas in Oman

Work visa

When it comes to a work visa, a local company must obtain a special Labor Permit from the Ministry of Labor to employ workers. The procedure of obtaining such a visa and an Oman ID implies entering Oman, visiting a police office to seal the visa, giving biometric data and filing an application for an ID. To complete the process, one is required to undergo medical examination in a medical center in Oman.

An application for a local ID must be accompanied by:

  • original passport and its copy not older than 6 months;
  • result of medical examination (done in the applicant’s country of residence) certified by the Ministry of Health;
  • original Labor Permit issued by the Ministry of Labor and its copy (for work visas);
  • job offer or a signed contract with a local company (for work visas);
  • 2 photographs (like a passport photo).
A work visa is issued for a period of 2 years and it may be extended thereafter.

Investor visa

To obtain an investor visa, the applicant must meet one of the following conditions:

category 1 investor visa:
  • invest at least 500 000 OMR (~ 1 300 000 USD) in a limited liability company, public joint-stock company or government bonds,
  • purchase real estate in Oman worth 500 000 OMR,
  • establish a company that will employ at least 50 Omani citizens;

category 2 investor visa:
  • invest at least 250 000 OMR (~ 650 000 USD) in a limited liability company, public joint-stock company or government bonds,
  • purchase real estate in Oman worth 250 000 OMR,
  • prove monthly income of 4 000 OMR (~ 10 400 USD) – for expatriate employees who currently reside in Oman and want to retire in that country.
