History
The Bank was established in December 1993 as UTI Bank with its head office in Mumbai. The Bank was a joint venture of Unit Trust of India (UTI), Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), General Insurance Corporation, National Insurance Company, The New India Assurance Company, The Oriental Insurance Corporation and United India Insurance Company.
In 2005, UTI Bank's shares were listed on the London Stock Exchange. In 2006, UTI Bank opened its first overseas branch in Singapore. In the same year, a branch was opened in Shanghai, China. In 2007, a branch in Dubai International Financial Center and branches in Hong Kong were opened. In July 2007, UTI Bank changed its name to Axis Bank.
The bank has a wide network of about 2,590 branches and 12,900 ATMs. The bank's registered office is in Ahmedabad and its head office is in Mumbai. Axis Bank oversees overseas operations with 11 international branches in Singapore, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Hong Kong, Colombo, Shanghai and representative offices in Dhaka, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and a subsidiary in London
